YOUR Questions Answered

On Tuesday when I posted my 100th post I left the last ten tidbits of information up to you and your questions. Here are the answers to the questions I received.

What is your favorite food?
I was going to do a favorites list, but I really get hung up on this question. There are SO many foods I enjoy and I feel like I enjoy them for different reasons, which makes it so hard to choose. But, I don't want to leave you hanging so I will give you my favorite dessert as a compromise.
Banana Cream Cheesecake with Hot Fudge Sauce (mouth currently watering...thanks!!!)

What is the worst thing you have ever eaten?
This one is easy! When I was growing up my sisters and I went to a buffet of some sort with my dad. He loves to eat and try VERY interesting things. I was a good eater as a child, but when it came to meats in particular the textures were a big thing for me. Fat, gristle, anything along those lines and I was done. I remember that I had to stand on my toes just to see the food on the buffet so my dad was helping to load my plate. One thing that I saw and really wanted was chocolate mousse. My dad happily put some on my plate. Unfortunately, it wasn't chocolate mousse. And, when you are expecting chocolate mousse and you get liver pate, you are not a happy child. But, that was not the worst thing. My dad had some kind of meat on his plate and he asked me if I wanted some. I hesitated due to my issue, but he strongly convinced me to at least try it. I asked him what it was and he just implored me to try it. I put a piece in my mouth and nearly vomited after a strong gag. It was cow tongue! Tongue texture and all. Have you ever had a cat lick you? Imagine that feeling against your tongue. Ugh! My dad laughed hysterically.

What is your favorite fashion accessory?
Spit up. (I tease!)
Seriously, I sell jewelry on the side and really love all the pieces that I have in my collection to "advertise" my stuff. What a great job right? I sell for Silpada Designs.

What is your favourite TV show, book and recipe?
I asked myself, "Self, if you could only watch one show on TV what would that one show be?" And, I can't believe I am saying this, but I couldn't think of one single show I couldn't deal with not watching. But, I do enjoy "Law and Order", "Grey's Anatomy", "American Idol", "Lost", and "The Closer."

Favorite Book (there are really many, but one of my old favorites is..) Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

Favorite Recipe: No way can I choose. I just don't have a favorite. (I seem to be painting myself as an indecisive person, but really I'm not.) One of my favorite Cuban recipes is though is Picadillo with Black beans and rice. I PROMISE I will post it soon, but just don't have the time to do it right this minute. In the meantime, this one and this one are yummy.

What is your dream car, dream job and dream location to live?
Dream car: My Mommy answer would be the Honda Odyssey. I never thought I would say that because I have always said I wasn't a van person, but we have friends with one and if you load it with all the features it is one awesome vehicle.
My non-Mommy answer would be the Mercedes SL. What a beautiful car! I drool every time we go past the dealership. Oh to have a beautiful convertible so I could let my hair down (oh wait..it is down) and enjoy the wind and open sky with no kiddie music playing in the background, no crying, no complaining, and definitely no whining.

Dream job: I think it would be really great to be a children's author and go visit elementary schools and inspire kids to write. Teaching writing was one of my favorite things when I was a teacher. Too many kids just try too hard to write what they think their teachers or their parents would want them to write and don't let their own creativity come out.

Dream location to live: I really, really love where I live. We have great schools, great shopping, lots of things to do, we are within two or so hours of Washington, DC, Baltimore, New York City, Philadelphia, and many other great locations.
However, if I was going to live anywhere else, I think I would choose to live in the San Francisco area.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be and why?

Okay, here comes some honesty. A little over three years ago my husband (and I) took the leap into entrepreneurship. He works so hard and I am so proud of him. However, running your own business takes a lot of sacrifice and long hours. He has done a great job of spending quality time with us regardless of his work demands, but we still miss him around here at times. The real strain though has been financially. We knew it would be tough, but we didn't anticipate the length of time it would be that way. We thought by now we would be out of the townhouse we moved into when we sold our house to realize this dream. We long for a house with a yard so that Austin can run to his little heart's content. And we will see that day, we just don't know how soon. The business is steadily growing and we are truly blessed in so many ways. Sure, I could go back to work to advance our desires, but that is just not what we want for our family. So, to specifically answer the question, I would make the business profitable enough to give us the financial comfort we would need to move out of this current stage of our lives.
Things don't provide happiness, people do, and I couldn't be a happier person because of the beautiful people in my life. So by no means am I complaining!

Who is your favorite sister? (asked by my sister)
That is easy!
My favorite biological middle sister is Lisa and my favorite biological youngest sister is Amy.

So great to 'meet' you! I loved your comments over at my place--we should TOTALLY start a yahoo support group! Hi, my name is Octamom and I have an uncanny ability to prematurely end the existence of greenery....

I'm enjoying reading through your blog--and your little cutey is DARLING!

Cow tongue. Um yuck! Poor kiddo! For that, you should have thrown up on his plate. That's a harsh let down with the liver. Gross. And Odyssey? I used to have one, and miss it terribly. We sold it to come here. I agree with the mercedes too.....beautiful car! Nice choice! Thanks for sharing these answers, it's great getting to "know" you! ;)

As I began reading the "worst thing ever eaten" answer, I remembered Dad taking us to that "upscale establishment" and the liver pate. So funny that that experience sticks out in both of our minds.

Good answer to my trick question!

I can't wait to compare Picadillo recipes. Will you also some day post the recipe for Ropa Vieja? I have yet to try to cook that and I know you have a great recipe for it.

Susan, You listed my favorite book of all time...I've never known anyone else who's read it, either.
Love the recipes, too, esp. since I'm culinary stunted at the moment!
Miss you, my dear friend. See you in October!!
