Please Help My Inner Worm

I must confess.

I am a bookworm.

Unfortunately, the worm in me has been enduring a very long winter, hibernating in a deep, deep hole.
The winter = kids.
The deep, deep hole = my day to day life.

I am desperate for some time with my head in some seriously good books. For this I need your help.

Next Saturday, August 2nd, we are heading to the Outer Banks, NC for our standard family vacation. We will be there for two weeks and I am bound and determined that I will read my way through at least 4 or 5 great books.

So...HELP!!! Please, please, please offer me some great suggestions. Don't assume that I have read anything, just tell me your current and all time favorites. I seriously have not read anything at all that wasn't a baby book or instruction manual (camera, software, etc.) in the last year or so. Last summer on vacation I read a bunch of classics that I hadn't read. So, even hits from last summer have probably not crossed my path.

I am counting on you! Please don't leave me hanging. My inner worm NEEDS you!

**If you have a book list on your blog, just send me a link so I can find it easily.**

...your inner worm....still giggling about that post!

Totally not something I'd normally read, but a friend gave me "Kabul Beauty School" by Deborah Rodriguez. It was really a great read!

A book I read this year thatis up there with one of the best I have ever read is 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by Khaled Hosseini. It is the same author that wrote 'The Kite Runner'. I thought I would not like ATSS, but my book club all decided on it, so I thought I would give it a try. After the first chapter, I was hooked. Another good one is a memior (a crazy one!) called 'The Glass Castle' by Jeannette Walls. I thought my life was crazy growing up, this woman's was insane! I could not put it down. Hope they help! If you are more into beach reads (easy and not much thought needed), I have a few of those too!

'A Girl Named Zippy' is a good, fun read.
'The Pillars of the Earth' was a strange book that was similar to a train wreck. I literally couldn't put it down, although I skimmed through a few parts.
'The Memory Keeper's Daughter' is one that I'd recommend as well.
I'll talk to my aunts today; we all are book exchangers, and some of them go around so quickly that I forget the names, but they send me some favorites.
I must have read 50+ books this past school semester (I was SOOO busy in my classroom!)

"The Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck also, the Stephenie Meyer books (Twilight series). We also love Alexander McCall Smith books - "The No. 1 Ladies Dectective Agency." It is a whole series of quick reads!! Love it

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. I am going to get a little more info on these books and make some choices before I go. I will definitely let everyone know what made my "nightstand."

I love "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold *I think*. It's good. Really good. I hope you get some good reads out of us :)

I read The Kite Runner mostly in a weekend. A great, read. A bit heavy, but you can't help but love it! Last fall I read Anne Lamott's "Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith." If you've never read one of her books, she's a hoot, and her faith is wild and refreshing. I'm sure you will disagree with her on a number of things, but she's alot of fun!

My favorite books as of late:

Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull(if you don't like Harry Potter/Mythical creatures, don't even bother... but they are an easy read)

The Lightning Thief (and its three sequals) by Rick Riordan (Greek mythology in modern times)

Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer (as I am sure has already been mentioned at least once)

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom (short- easy read, great message)

hope these give you some ideas. I went with light reading, nothing heavy or deep. All good reads, and all entertaining. Good luck choosing!

I have to throw in a second vote for The Lovely Bones. It was really good. Unfortunately it's the only one I've read lately, well, ok, I read 'Salem's Lot and the Stand, but I think I was the only person left on earth who hadn't read those.

Anything by Jodi Picult is worth reading, she's an easy read but not full of 'dribble'. Have a great vac - I'm heading out on one today too.

I am also going to vote for The Lovely Bones--my favorite book. Another good one is Water for Elephants. Have fun!

My Sister's Keeper - Jodi Picoult. This is one of my new all time favorite books. I would also recommend anything by Jodi Picoult. After reading My Sisters Keeper I made it my personal mission to read her other 14 books. I am on the last one right now.

The next book I will be reading is The Shack by William P. Young. I have heard that it is a life changing read...

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Enjoy your vacation!

My inner worm is starving to death too.

I have been trying to rectify this but find time only to do so if I forfeit sleep, but sometimes it is worth it.

Anything by Jodi Picoult. I really liked Plain Truth and the Pact.

Time Travellers Wife is good too.

Ha!Ha! "My inner worm," funny.
I love the classics. Pride and Prejudic, Crime and Punishment, Jane Eyre. These are three of my favorites.

My inner worm has finally gotten a bit of attention, mainly due to lots of free time recovering from back surgery. Oh how I miss the days of having free time to read for fun!

Since you're going on vacation, I'm going to pepper the list of suggestions with some lighter, fluffier fiction:

Remember Me - Sophie Kinsella
Babyproof - Emily Giffin
ANYTHING by Jennifer Weiner (if you haven't read anything, I'd go back to Good in Bed, which is her first). I'm currently reading Certain Girls, her current novel, and loving it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today, and thank you for forcing me to add yet ANOTHER great blog to my reader ;)

Happy POW!

Beyond your usual chic lit suggestiosn (which are great summer reads!), I love Joanne Harris (Chocolat), Tracy Chevalier (Girl in a Pearl Earing) and Isabel Allende (Daughter of Fortune). My favorite book is Snella's Sense of Snow, but it's not a quick read.

Anything by Diana Gabaldon (though you'll only maybe get through one of hers!)
I'm also a huge fan of James Patterson.
I really need to expand my horizons a bit. I love to read, but I'm too lazy to go find new things. I just wait for something to fall into my lap.

I have a book list on the right column of my blog www.fourseasonsfarm.blogspot.com you could check out. I am getting ready to read Slummy Mummy and Twilight (which I picked up after all the peer pressure from everyone!) LOL!

I LOVE the Alexander McCall Smith Africa Series. The first one is The #1 Ladies Detective Agency.
It sounds super corny- but they are so amazing, and he is such a fantastic author. I laugh out loud constantly- and cry!

I will agree with a few other posts...

1) Jodi Picoult- "My Sisters Keeper" and "Vanishing Acts". Both were really great and as soon as I find time to read I'll be picking up another of hers.

2) Alice Sebold- "The Lovely Bones"

3) Mitch Albom- "The Five People You Meet in Heaven"
